Frank M. Jones Sr., 83, Sinking Valley, formerly of Lakemont, died Thursday at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.
He was born in Carson Valley, son of the late Seibert and Florence (Gurkin) Jones. He married Natsuko "Dimples" Furuki on Jan. 24, 1951, in Kobe, Japan.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Frank M. Jr. (Cheryl) of Lakemont; a daughter, Kathy (Dennis) Young of La Jose; eight grandchildren: Dr. Shawn Jones, Janelle Free, Jason Jones and Matthew Jones, all of Altoona, Kristy Anderson of Goldsboro, N.C., Erika Fisher of Manhattan, N.Y., Jennifer Young of Fayetteville, N.C., and Christopher Young of Bessemer, Ala.; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Sam; and three sisters: Marcella Gutshall, Betty Dickenson and Martha Beck.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William; and a sister, Mary Kelly.
Frank was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1946-52. He retired as a laborer from R.L. Hamilton Pump Repair. He enjoyed woodworking and cooking.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home Inc., 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Altoona Bible Church by Pastor Stewart McClelland. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in Frank's memory be made to Altoona Bible Church.
