Wilbur Grey ‘Buck’ Jamison

Retired U.S. Army Maj. Wilbur Grey "Buck" Jamison, 91, Richmond and Charlottesville, Va., died peacefully on Saturday of congestive heart failure.

He was born in Altoona.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Effie Nicholson Jamison; a daughter, Yvonne Alger; a son, Danny Jamison; a sister, Geraldine "Jerry" Eicher; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Buck served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 79th Infantry Division and participated in the Normandy Invasion and other major battles. He also served in the 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War.

Buck retired from the Army in 1965 and worked as an insurance adjuster and regional claims manager.

He championed the causes of all veterans while serving in elected positions of the Richmond Area Chapter of the Military Officers Association.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road (Route 10), N. Chesterfield, VA 23234. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia, Va., with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Providence United Methodist Church, 901 S. Providence Road, Richmond, VA 23236.
