H.S. girls basketball roundup

WEXFORD - The Altoona girls basketball team won their consolation game over Erie McDowell, 73-35, in the North Allegheny Tournament Saturday in scholastic action.

Darby Lee put up 21 points for the Lady Lions, while Lauren Donley scored 20 points, making five 3-pointers in the game. Teammate Kayla Grimme added 15 points.

Erie McDowell's Anna Kemper led her team with 10 points, going 4-for-6 in free throws.

ROCKWOOD - Chestnut Ridge defeated Somerset, 48-45, in the Rockwood Tournament championship game.

Chestnut Ridge's Emily Finnegan had 13 rebounds and nine points, followed by Giannie Weaver's seven rebounds and seven points. Teammate Morgan Weyant added nine points.

Stacey Geary put up 15 points for Somerset.

Glendale Lady Viking Tournament

FLINTON - Hayley Myers put up 19 points as Juniata Valley defeated Glendale, 54-33, in the Glendale Lady Viking Tournament championship game.

Abbie Zinobile scored 13 points for the Lady Hornets, followed by Kerigan Ammerman's eight points.

Katelyn Matthews and Kristal Peterson each had seven points for Glendale.

Juniata Valley's Abby Zinobile and Kerrigan Ammerman, Glendale's Katelyn Matthews and Caitlin Kimberly and Williamsburg's Haley Rhule were named to the all-tourney team.

Meyers was named MVP, and Zinobile was awarded best defensive player. Kimberly was awarded the sportsmanship award.

HOMER CITY - Central Cambria captured the Homer-Center Tipoff Tournament with a 49-37 win over Homer-Center in the title game.

Taylor King-Brothers led the winners with 12 points, while teammate Bri Wasser added 10 points. Both girls, along with teammate Katie Bracken, were named to the all-tourney team.

Central Cambria, which led 20-14 at halftime, is now 2-0 while Homer-Center fell to 1-1.

BELLEVILLE - Jen Drenning had 21 points as Great Commission defeated Johnstown Christian, 50-27, to win the Belleville Mennonite Tip-Off Tournament.

Drenning and teammate Jaissle McCoy, who added 13 points, were named tournament co-MVPs. Maddie Sprankle led Johnstown Christian with 15 points.

The win improved Great Commission to 3-0 on the season. Johnstown is now 1-1.
