The Bishop Guilfoyle high school varsity hockey team lost to Johnstown, 7-1, Thursday night at the North Central Recreation Center.

Somerset topped the Bishop Guilfoyle JVs, 4-1.

Altoona falls

The Altoona JV ice hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to Latrobe late Thursday night at Galactic Ice.

The Mountain Lions got goals from Matt Dalto and Shane Burgmeier, while Dalto and Joe Dombrowski each picked up assists.

Goalie Catcher Cumming stopped 24 of 27 shots for Altoona.

J.M. Knepp led Spring Cove with 11 points.

SAXTON - The Tussey Mountain girls opened the season with a one-point loss to Forbest Road.

Tussey's McKenna Sitch hit a half-court buzzer beater before halftime and finished with nine points. Olivia Hall had eight for FR.

n In the first wave of Northeast Conference team sportsmanship awards for the 2012-13 academic year, Saint Francis U led all fall sports with three selections. SFU claimed awards in field hockey, women's volleyball and men's cross country.

Now in its fifth year of existence, the Red Flash have led the NEC in team sportsmanship honors overall in each of the previous four years. Saint Francis has won 26 awards in total over that time span.
