I am saddened and frustrated that Blair County commissioners are continuing on a path to sell Valley View Home.
Valley View is not only one of the highest rated homes in the county, but a vital asset to our community.
If sold, we lose an important resource that provides the highest quality care available to our most vulnerable citizens, regardless of their income, and also provides the good jobs Blair County so desperately needs.
The home also generates nearly $19 million a year in revenue for the county and is funded primarily by the state and federal government.
Where else could we find a resource that costs us so little, but gives us so much?
When Cambria and Lackawanna counties sold their county homes, quality care decreased, jobs were lost, and wages were cut. Why would we want that same future here?
Don't our seniors, who helped build our towns, raise our children and protect our nation, deserve the best care possible? Doesn't Blair County deserve better than low-paying jobs that hurt our economy?
If the home is sold, we can never go back, and this resource is lost forever. County commissioners need to listen to the residents of Valley View and the residents of Blair County. This sale is not what we want, and we urge them to hold on to this gem of our community.
