Geraldine ‘Judy’ (Hite) Martz

Geraldine "Judy" (Hite) Martz, 92, Roaring Spring, passed away Wednesday at Homewood at Martinsburg after a brief illness.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of George C. and Anita (Evans) Hite and was raised by her aunt and uncle, Clara (Hite) and William Ehrenfeld, after the early death of her mother. She married William L. Martz on Jan. 27, 1947, at the Newry Lutheran Parsonage, and he preceded her in death on May 13, 1994.

Surviving are a daughter, Beth A. Teeter and husband, Robert, of Roaring Spring, with whom she resided for 16 years until recently becoming a resident at the Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Bruce Palmer and wife, Shelly, John Free, Lynnse Morris, Lori Palmer-James and David, and Ehren Teeter; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.

Geraldine was a 1938 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1946 graduate of the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing. Before relocating to Roaring Spring, she was on the cradle roll and was a lifelong member of the former Fifty-eighth Street United Methodist Church, where as a young woman, she taught Sunday school. Later, she and her husband served as youth fellowship advisers there.

Geraldine was proud to have fulfilled her life's ambitions as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She also served as a private-duty registered nurse and as a nursing supervisor at the Lutheran and Presbyterian homes in Hollidaysburg.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, where a celebration of life service will be held at 4 p.m. Her nephew, Pastor Richard "Skip" Hartman will officiate, assisted by Pastor Mick Dawes of Faith United Methodist Church, Woodbury, where Geraldine was most recently a member. Interment will be memorialized at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Susquehanna Conference United Methodist Church, designated to the playground fund for Greene Hills RV Park, 303 Mulberry Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050.
