Donald M. Sipes Sr., 69, Altoona, died Wednesday at Altoona Regional.
He was born in Orbisonia, son of Freda (Price) Sipes and the late Marshall Sipes. He married Sheila Burns on July 2, 1976, in Winchester, Va.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Dana Esch and husband, Kenneth, of Jacksonville, N.C.; three sons: Donald Jr. of Altoona, Daniel and wife, Melinda, of Altoona and Marshall and wife, Denise, of Tyrone; three grandchildren: Spencer Esch, Ashton Sipes and Kendra Esch; his mother of Bellwood; three sisters: Helen Erickson and Dorothy Stephens, both of Bellwood, and Mary Parson of Altoona; and two brothers: John of Altoona and Gerald of Rehoboth Beach, Del.

Donald was a U.S. Navy veteran. He retired in 2005 as owner/operator of Sipes and Sons Construction, Altoona, after 25 years of service. He was a member and deacon of the Eighteenth Street Community Church, Altoona. He enjoyed his grandchildren, camping, fishing and baking pies.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
