Vivian M. Irvin, 82, Altoona, went home to be with the Lord early Thursday morning at Altoona Center for Nursing Care.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Harold and Dorothy (Haddle) Kensinger. She married John H. Irvin on Oct. 19, 1951, in Altoona, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 2006.

Surviving are four children: Bette E. Fischer and husband, Donald, of Altoona, James H. and wife, Susan, of Concord, N.C., Janet L. Hazlett and husband, Alan, of Holland, Ohio, and Carol L. Merritt and husband, John, of Harrisburg; eight grandchildren: Angela Wayland, Kristy Helms, Melissa Irvin, Peter Fischer, Jennifer Halula, Nicole Mueller, Erin Hazlett and Ryan Slemmer; and seven great-grandchildren: Allison Fischer, Hunter Wayland, Lorelai Helms, Heidi Wayland, Brenna Helms, Connor Halula and Avery Mueller.

Vivian retired from the stem department of Sylvania in 1980 after six years of service. She was a member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the King's Crusaders Sunday school class. She and her husband, John, enjoyed working at MGM Studios, Disney World, when they resided in Florida and also enjoyed their summer home in Coalport.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at Second Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., the Rev. Greg Johnson officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Second Avenue United Methodist Church, 130 Second Ave., Altoona, PA 16602.
