Emerson E. ‘Bud’ Young

Emerson E. "Bud" Young, 80, Altoona, died Tuesday at Altoona Regional after an extended illness.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Jennie (Layton) Young, and was raised by his grandmother, Jennie Young. He married Patricia Weimert on Dec. 16, 1983, in Altoona.

Surviving are his wife; two sons: Richard of Altoona and Scott in California; a daughter, Deborah of Altoona; three stepdaughters: Susan Wagner, Linda Fisher and Rhonda LaCroce, all of Altoona; several grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; two brothers: David Halton of Altoona and Pat Halton of Shippensburg; and three sisters: Gertrude Baronner of York, Catherine Eichenlaub of Tallahassee, Fla., and Ann Miller of Altoona.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Bud was a graduate of Altoona High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict, serving as an electrician's mate. He retired as a sales representative in the insurance field.

Bud was a member of Altoona Full Gospel Church and the Bavarian Aid Society. He was an avid reader and enjoyed carpentry.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, in Stevens Memorial Chapel by Pastor Joseph Kelly. Committal will be held at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
