Alma June Sloter, 79, formerly of Altoona, passed away peacefully Saturday evening at Homewood at Martinsburg.
She was born in East Beckley, W.Va., daughter of the late Robert and Phyllis (Ballengee) Meadows.
Surviving are three children: Stanley (Jolene) of Bethesda, Md., Barry (Dorothy) of Altoona and Terrie Persun of Bellwood; grandchildren: Phyllis (Santini), Melissa, Elizabeth, Kelsey, Skyler and Andrea; a great-grandson, Scythe; and her loving companion and fiance, Lester Muse.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Ann Nicholson; and a brother, Robert Meadows Jr.
Affectionately called "Gea" by some of her grandchildren and also known to friends as A.J., Alma had an extraordinary talent for creating bridal gowns and other unique formal attire to the benefit of numerous wedding parties. She had a beautiful singing voice and was a skilled yodeler.
She had a zest for life and a passion for traveling. Some of her favorite destinations were Argentina, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Antarctica and Europe. She had also traveled throughout most of the United States and had lived in the states of Pennsylvania, Virginia, Missouri, Florida, West Virginia and North Carolina.
Always active, Alma was a talented painter and also participated in bowling, golf and archery. She took flying lessons in pursuit of her pilot's license. Her vibrant spirit for adventure, her love of life and her wonderful sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A private memorial service will be held at Hillside Community Church, Bellwood, at the convenience of her family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be sent to the Domestic Abuse Project c/o Family Services Inc., 2022 Broad Ave., Altoona PA 16601.
