Glenda M. (Harland) McCreary, 91, Altoona, went home to be with her heavenly father late Saturday evening at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Claar) Harland. She married Arthur F. McCreary on April 26, 1945, who passed away in 2005, after 60 years of marriage.
Surviving are a son, Arthur L., and wife, Jodi; two daughters: Cheryl Snyder and husband, Jacob, and Cynthia McCreary, with whom she resided; three grandchildren: Melissa McCreary (Chris Gaska), Teresa McCreary and Justin Snyder and wife, Melissa; three step-grandchildren: Kerry Lane, Amanda Mercado and Lauren Berthal; five great-grandchildren: Marcello Paiva, Simone McCreary, Julia Snyder, Emily Snyder and Ella Gaska; a step-great-grandson, Benjamin Mercado; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, David McCreary; a grandson, Justin Snyder, and three sisters: Ellen Mitchell, Ida Davis and Mary Weible.
She worked at multiple jobs during her teen and early adult years. But her greatest occupation was that of mother and grandmother.
Glenda was a member of Altoona First Church of God, where she had served in various capacities.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 at Gilden Barton Funeral Home, 1401 Ninth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, by her son-in-law, Pastor Jacob Snyder. Interment will be at Green Lawn Cemetery, Roaring Spring.
In honor of Mrs. McCreary's great-granddaughters, memorial contributions can be made, in her memory, to either the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 55 South Progress Ave., Harrisburg, PA 17109; or to the Northern New England Down Syndrome Congress, PO Box 1234, Concord, NH, 03302.
