Stephen M. "Steve" Banholzer, also known as "Steve Michaels," 74, Altoona, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Altoona Regional after an extended illness.
Mr. Banholzer was born in Altoona, son of the late Richard and Helen (Lathero) Banholzer. He married Marianne (Bauman) Muri on May 27, 1988, in Harrisburg.
He is survived by his wife; nine step-children: Paul H. Muri Jr., David T. (Lynne) Muri, Terri J. (Louis) Colabove and Marcella A. Fickes, all of Altoona; Mark S. (Cindy) Muri of State College, Dianne (John) Crust of Boalsburg, Cathy Logue of Lenexa, Kan., Joan F. (William Jr.) Rossman of Haymarket, Va., and Lori A. Muri of Harrisburg; a brother, David E. Banholzer of Brookline, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Banholzer was preceded in death by a stepson, Michael Charles Muri; and two grandchildren: Jason Colabove and Christina Keirn.
He retired Jan. 1, 2001, as a communications personality (radio & TV) at Pennsylvania State Senate Harrisburg with 20 years of service. He was also previously an announcer/music director for WRTA radio; and was a teacher at St. Francis University and Logan Junior High School.
Steve was a 1956 graduate of Josephinum High School, Worthington, Ohio; he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Francis University in 1962; and a Master of Arts degree from Penn State University in 1968.
He was a member of The Knights of Columbus, Elks; Moose Club; Heidelberg Country Club and of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
He was an avid sports fan and loved his dog, Max.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Jones Funeral Home, 1222 13th Ave., Altoona, PA 16601, where a vigil for the deceased will be celebrated during the visitation.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with Fr. David R. Rizzo officiating. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
