Leon P. ‘Mad Dog’ Madey

Leon P. "Mad Dog" Madey, 78, Gallitzin, died Dec. 1, 2012, at Valley View Home, Altoona. He was born in Gallitzin, son of the late Louis and Anna (Zachesky) Madey.

He is survived by his son, John K. of Gallitzin; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Jeanette Madey of Ebensburg who cared for Leon; a sister, Josephine George of Lilly; and brother Frank (Marianne) Madey of Berlin.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Yvonne Crilley, on March 3, 2010; brothers: Louis Jr., John, Michael and Stanley; and sisters: Wanda Kosiek, Cecelia Muldoon, Margaret Solarczyk and infant sister Blanche. Leon retired in 1994 from Penn Cambria School District as a teacher.

He was a 1952 graduate of Gallitzin High School.

Leon was a member of the Summit Country Club, Cresson. He was also a member of St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin. He coached basketball and other sports at Penn Cambria High School.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church St., Gallitzin, where a vigil service will be held Monday afternoon.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, with the Rev. Albert Ledoux as celebrant. Committal will be at Resurrection Mausoleum, Gallitzin.
