Joseph A. Smith Sr., 58, Hollidaysburg, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning at his residence.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Donald and Anna (Helman) Smith. He married Cynthia L. Wertz on June 14, 1997, in Kershaw County, S.C.
Surviving are his wife of 15 years, Cindy; a son, Joseph Jr. and wife, Beth, of Canoe Creek; a daughter, Amy Espy and husband, John, of Spruce Creek; a stepdaughter, Erin L. Scott of Hollidaysburg; five grandchildren; a sister, Kate Smith in Texas; and a brother, Bruce and wife, Jeanne, of Williamsburg.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother, James O.
Joseph was a 1972 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School. He retired from Smith Masonry as a foreman and union bricklayer.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, by the Rev. Jaime G. Olson. The family requests casual dress. Interment will be at New Canoe Creek Cemetery.
