Doris J. Nearhoof, 88, formerly of Altoona, died Monday in Williamsville, N.Y.
She was born in Lebanon, Pa., daughter of the late Harry and Helen Irene (Schreiber) Hostetter. She married Walter L. Nearhoof in Altoona on Jan. 11, 1947, and he preceded her in death Sept. 30, 1998.
Surviving are a daughter, JoAnne N. (Mark) Gerfin of Wake Forest, N.C.; two sons: Jay G. of Taunton, Mass., and Lee W. of Somerset; four grandchildren: Elisa J. (Jeremy) Johnson, Amanda J. (Matthew) LaBrecque, Matthew M. (Anna Petrick) Gerfin and Jay Michael Nearhoof; and three great-grandchildren: Isabella and Adyn Johnson and Aurelia-Sophia Gerfin.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Earl.
Doris was a 1941 graduate of Jamaica Plains High School in New York and attended William and Mary College, Williamsburg, Va. She also received her business diploma from Altoona Business School. She retired as a teacher's aide from the Altoona Area School District.
Doris was a former member of First Lutheran Church, Altoona, and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, State College.
Friends will be received from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service, Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home Inc., 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona, Pastor Ronald C. Miller Jr. officiating. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
