Robert E. Poeschl, 77, Altoona, died Wednesday at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg, after a courageous 12-year battle with cancer.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Joseph and Frances (Fastenmeier) Poeschl.
Surviving are two nieces: Anna M. Willmerdinger of Altoona and Junette Bulter of Rochester, N.Y.; and two nephews: Joseph Willmerdinger of Rochester, N.Y., and David Poeschl of Cherry Hill, N.J.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Joseph, Aloysius and John; three sisters: Anna Willmerdinger, Mary Fraundorfer and Rose Weber; and a niece, Ruth (Fraundorfer) Schreib.
Robert was a graduate of Altoona High School and retired from Conrail on June 1, 1995, as a chief clerk after 42 years of service. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Friends will be received from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Committal will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Mary's Church in Robert's memory.
