Russell Edward Bailey, 65, Altoona, died Tuesday at Van Zandt VA Medical Center.

He was born in Indianapolis, Ind., son of the late George W. Jones Sr. and Rowena Bailey, the second of four children born to that union.

Surviving are three sisters: Ivanora and Waldean of Indianapolis, Ind., and Virginia in Tennessee; and two brothers: George W. Bailey Sr. of Altoona and James A. Jones of Indianapolis. He was a great-great-great-great-great uncle.

He was preceded in death by four brothers: William, George Jr., Mark and Melvin; two sisters: Grace and Alice; and two wives: Glennzel and Prudence.

Russell attended school in the Indianapolis school system. After graduating from Crispus Attucks High School, he entered the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He worked various jobs and had been declining in health for a number of years. He was married twice, and no children were born to either union.

Russell was affectionately known as "BR" (Brother Russell) and had attended the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Indianapolis as a young man. He enjoyed listening to jazz and socializing. To him, jazz was always "the bottom line" in conversations.

A service will be held in his hometown of Indianapolis, Ind.

Local arrangements are by Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata.
