David Edward Hancock, 80, Altoona, died Monday evening at his residence after a brief illness.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Edward A. and Lorraine H. (Menchey) Hancock. He was twice married, first to Alice Marie Weir. He then married Sara "Sally" McNelis on Aug. 16, 1979, in Winchester, Va., who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Patty Scott (Craig) of Mechanicsburg and Penny Rago (Mark) of Painesville, Ohio; seven grandchildren: Marsha Cox, David Garman, Wendy Garman, Nathan (Nicki) Rago, Christopher (Jean) Rago, Courtney Schmidt (Daniel) and Brianna Fombelle (Brandon); 11 great-grandchildren: Cameron and Carter Cox, Elexis German, Brandon, Vincent and Ryan Rago, Daniel and Jacob Rago and Ethan, Nathanial and Evelyn Schmidt; three sisters-in-law: Nancy Brumbaugh, Susan Mock (Jerry) and Margaret McNelis; two brothers-in-law: Hugh McNelis (Cindi) and Bill McNelis (Sandy); nephews and nieces: Jeff, Sherry, Jeff and Jessica Hancock, Eddie, Austin, Brycen and Jaycen Hancock and Lisa and Denny Henck; and a special goddaughter, Julia Elizabeth Ritchey.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pam German, on Jan. 28, 2004; and a brother, Edward A. Jr., on July 2, 1978.
David was a 1950 graduate of Altoona High School and attended Penn State Forestry School. He was co-owner of Monarch Cleaners with Bill McNelis. Prior to Monarch, he had been a computer manager at SKF and then vice president of Universal Computer Systems, Altoona.
David enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held Thursday evening. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at St. Mark Catholic Church by Father Ron Osinski. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family requests that donations be made to St. Mark Catholic Church or the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society in memory of David.
