Helene "Doc" Vravko Swanger Gundel, 90, died Tuesday afternoon at Golden LivingCenter-Hillview.
She was born in Piney Fork, Ohio, daughter of the late Paul and Elona "Helen" (Kovacs) Vravko. She first married Elwood D. "Pete" Swanger on Dec. 23, 1944, in Columbus, Ohio. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1979. She then married Ralph M. Gundel.
Surviving are two nephews: Michael and Paul Vravko.
Helene was a graduate of Smithfield High School in Ohio. She was formerly employed as an accountant for Sealtest Ice Cream and Blatchford Furniture.
Helene was a member of the Horseshoe Golden Nuggets, Altoona Library, Eldorado Kiwanis, Altoona Model Train Club and a life member of the Bavarian Aid Society.
She enjoyed dancing, bowling and traveling, especially sightseeing trips with the YWCA, AARP and Horseshoe Golden Nuggets. She also enjoyed volunteering at Bon Secours and Altoona Hospitals and the Railroaders Memorial Museum, where she was a life member.
Doc was a member of Penn Lanes Bowling Leagues and was proud to have gone to the National Bowling League Tournament every year where she received a 25-year plaque.
There will be no viewing or funeral service.
Interment will be made in Mountain View Cemetery, Mill Creek.
