Harold E. Skonier, 82, Altoona, passed away Monday at Valley View Home.
He was born in Altoona, son of Evan P. and Edith (Lind) Skonier. He married Janet L. Steurer on Jan. 20, 1950.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years; a son, Richard (Kathy) of Altoona; a granddaughter, Renee Skonier of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Patricia Imler of Hollidaysburg; and three nieces: Kathy Glashauser, Lee Ann Lightner and Connie Counsman.
Harold was a 1947 graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard as a sergeant during the Korean War with the 28th Quartermaster Company. He retired from Central Distributors in Tyrone as a sales representative in August 2004 and had also been employed as a manager of the West End Bowling Lanes, Tyrone, with 20 years of service.
Harold was a member of Christ Second Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council for many years. He also belonged to the Pennsylvania State Bowling Proprietors Association, where he served as president for more than two years.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Leslie E. Axe Funeral Home, 1520 Fourth St., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Christ Second Lutheran Church by the Rev. L. Hugh Gowan. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society.
