Dr. Arch William Fees Jr., 76, Hollidaysburg, passed away Saturday at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md., surrounded by his family.
He was born in Spangler, son of the late Dr. Arch William and Juliana (Connolly) Fees. He married Susan Olivia Pavey on Nov. 28, 1964.
Surviving are his wife; seven children: Kelly (Scott) Atkinson, Elaine (Rick) Gallagher, Dr. Heather Fees, Susan (James) Sanders, Diane (Matthew) Krueger, James (Megan) Fees and Bridget (Dr. John K.) Monagle; 13 grandchildren: Lauren and Avery Atkinson, Kaylie, Rachel, Jacob and Trent Gallagher, Olivia and Madeline French, Hayden and Reed Sanders and Harrison, Chase and Henry Krueger; three sisters: Ann Marie Ranck, Juliana Kirsch and Gretchen Kirsch; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Connie Wychulis.
Arch graduated in 1958 from the University of Notre Dame and earned a medical degree in 1962 from Temple University Medical School. He served an internship in 1962 at Geisinger Medical Center and his surgical residency at Harrisburg General Hospital and completed his urology residency at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie.
Arch was well known in his community as a respected urologist. He practiced medicine at Altoona Hospital and many other hospitals in Blair and Cambria counties for nearly three decades. During the Vietnam War, he served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force and provided lifesaving medical and surgical care for countless wounded soldiers.
He took pride in cheering for the Fighting Irish. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling, particularly throughout the American West, Alaska and Canada. A favorite pastime of his was studying military history, especially WWII and the Civil War.
Dad's loving spirit will forever live in our hearts. His joyous character, countless jokes and gregarious nature touched the hearts and lives of so many. He lived for and loved his wife, children and grandchildren. His sense of humor, kindness and determination will carry on for generations, and he will be sadly missed.
Friends will be received from 9 until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, in the Boniface Wimmer Room at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown, the Rev. Jude W. Brady, O.S.B., as celebrant. Interment will be in the church cemetery, and full military rites will be accorded by local veterans.
Arrangements are by Stevens Funeral Home Inc., Carrolltown.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
