Barbara Emiline (Daugherty) Buchanan, 91, formerly of Hollidaysburg, went home to be with the Lord early Sunday morning at Homewood at Martinsburg after an extended illness.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Edward F. and Emma (Dingeldein) Daugherty. She was formerly married to Calvin Ray "Buck" Buchanan, who died Oct. 18, 1993.
Surviving are three sons: the Rev. Douglas R. (wife, Tina) of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., Geary L. (wife, Trudy) in rural Duncansville and Ronald R. (wife, Carol) of Warminster; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Tyler Lea in 2002; and a brother, Edward.
Mrs. Buchanan was a 1939 graduate of Altoona High School.
She retired as a cashier from the Altoona Rescue Mission and previously was employed as a surgical technician at the former Mercy Hospital, Altoona.
Barbara was a longtime member of Altoona Bible Church, where she was a former member of the adult choir and a former Sunday school teacher.
She enjoyed animals, especially dogs.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at Plank, Stitt and Stevens Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, officiated by her son, Pastor Douglas R. Buchanan. Private interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Altoona.
At the family's request, memorial contributions may be made to Altoona Bible Church Memorial Fund in Barbara's name. Arrangements are by John C. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.
