Local JV teams triumph

JOHNSTOWN - Josh DeGol and Austin Myers eached scored a goal in the first period as Bishop Guilfoyle blanked Johnstown, 5-0, in JV ice hockey action Thursday night.

Teammate Alec Bakale scored in the second period, followed with one goal each by Dan Landon and Ben Oakley in the third period. Goalie Trent Bogert was 15-15 in saves for BG?(1-0)

Tigers triumph

The Hollidaysburg JV ice hockey team scored seven goals in the first period en route to a 7-0 win over Kiski Thursday night at Galactic Ice.

No names were provided for the players who scored goals for Hollidaysburg.

Goalie Brandon Amigh stopped all four shots he faced for the winners.

PSU team honored

Five members of the Penn State field hockey team have received Division I All-Region honors, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association office announced Thursday.

Senior Kelsey Amy, sophomore Laura Gebhart and junior Brittany Grzywacz were named to the All-Mideast Region first team, and junior Abby Fuhrman and junior Ashtin Klingler were named to the All-Mideast Region second team.

Amy also was named the Big Ten player of the year for her efforts in getting the team the Big Ten championship as well as a trip to the NCAA?Tournament. She finished with 24 goals and 12 assists.
