John Joseph Misciagna

John Joseph Misciagna, 88, Northfield, Ohio, formerly of Altoona, passed away Monday.

He was the son of the late Gennaro Misciagna of La Riccia, Italy, and Guiseppine (Maitino) Misciagna of Carpinone, Italy. He married Lois Jean Chidsey of Brunswick, Ohio, who preceded him in death.

John was the loving father of Michael (Pam) of Northfield, Ohio, John of Northfield, Mary (Karen) of Charlotte, N.C., and Susan of Columbus, Ohio; grandfather of Theresa, Tony, Stefanie and Timothy; and great-grandfather of Bianca, Angelina, Colin and Katie. He is also survived by two brothers: Michael of Long Beach, Calif., and Nicholas of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and four sisters: Esther Dorazio and Mary Carnell, both of Altoona, Evelyn Urbanek of Coupon and Dolores Johnston (Charles) of Dupont.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Jerry, Chester and Rocco; two sisters: Josephine Haselbarth and Edith Altiero; three brothers-in-law: Lawrence Dorazio, Donald Carnell Sr. and Clair Urbanek Sr.; a sister-in-law, Hazel; and a daughter-in-law, Janit Misciagna.

John was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in France during WWII. He graduated from Shippensburg State College and retired from General Motors' Terex Division in Hudson, Ohio. He was an active member of St. Barnabas Church of Northfield, Ohio, and also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Order Sons of Italy in America.

John played softball for the Silver League in Akron, Ohio, from 1995-2006, and he coached Little League baseball in the Nordonia Hills Athletic Association. After retiring, he also enjoyed collecting and selling baseball cards and tools.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, 99 W. Aurora Road, Northfield, Ohio. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, Northfield. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 480 W. Highland Road, Northfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to your local hospice or to St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 9451 Brandywine Road, Northfield, OH 44067.
