James P. Vaughn Jr., 66, of Martinsburg passed away Saturday at Altoona Regional after losing his battle with melanoma.
He was born in Altoona, son of Grace (McDowell) Vaughn and the late James P. Vaughn Sr.
Surviving are his mother of Martinsburg; a son James D. Vaughn and wife, Donna, of Altoona; a daughter Cristine K. Huffine and husband, Jonathan, of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Karen Stombaugh and husband, Alvin, of Martinsburg; his aunt and uncle, Charles and Betty McDowell of Altoona.; a niece, Heather O'Rourke and husband, James; a great-nephew, Colin; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
James was a 1964 graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the Army during Vietnam and then in the National Guard Reserves. James retired as a line technician from General Motors, Dayton, Ohio, in 1997.
He was a member of Mount Hope United Church of Christ, Blue Knob. He also was a member of the Altoona Corvette Club and the Blue Knob Community Center, and he enjoyed tinkering around.
James will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, East Freedom. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Penner officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Blue Knob.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Mount Hope United Church of Christ.
