Bernard D. McGraw, 84, rural Martinsburg, passed away Monday morning at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring, after a brief illness.
He was born on his family's farm in rural Martinsburg, son of the late Lloyd and Kathryn (Detwiler) McGraw. He married Arlene J. Peck on Aug. 3, 1949, in Martinsburg, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 27, 2007.
Surviving are a son, Gary B. at home; two daughters: Jeanie Doutt and husband, Chuck, of rural Roaring Spring and Robin S. McDowell and husband, Dan, of rural Martinsburg; four grandchildren: Dawn Dilling, Jon Doutt, Jared McDowell and Colleen McDowell; two great-grandchildren: Ethan and Ellie Dilling; and two sisters: Leona Ruggles of Roaring Spring and Eunice McGraw of Martinsburg.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Dean and Lloyd; and two sisters: Madeline Shoenfelt and Mildred Bowser.
Bernard was a 1946 graduate of Morrison Cove High School, Martinsburg. After graduation, he worked for W. Floyd Bush Electrical Contractors Inc., Martinsburg, then worked in the Pittsburgh area building power lines and substations. In 1958, he took over the family dairy farm in rural Martinsburg, which has been in the McGraw family for 110 years.
Bernard enjoyed deer hunting, watching sports, reading the newspaper and keeping up with current events and especially loved candy. He was also a pitcher for the Martinsburg team in the Blair Twilight Baseball League. He will be sadly missed by his family and his dog, Peanut.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at John C. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, with his son-in-law, Charlie Doutt, officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
