Samuel C. Lehner, 63, of 260 Van Scoyoc Hollow Road, Tyrone, died unexpectedly Sunday at his residence.
He was born in Philipsburg, son of John A. and Wandamae (Smith) Lehner. He married Nadine Schoch on Jan. 21, 2010.
Surviving are his parents; his wife; a son, Matthew J. of Tyrone; three stepchildren: Christopher Garland (Jennifer) of Tarentum, Ryan Garland (Tarrah) of Indiana, Pa., and Megan Garland of Tyrone; four stepgranddaughters: Calla, Mira, Isabella and Rayla; two brothers: John A. Jr. (Eileen) and Donald W. "Duck" of Tyrone; three sisters: Susan K. O'Brien (Robert) of Tyrone, Elizabeth A. Reese (Richard) of Port Matilda and Wanda M. Sprankle of Tyrone; a niece, Bobbi Jo O'Brien (Paul); six nephews: John A. "Jay" Lehner III (Jean), Andrew P. O'Brien, Timothy E. Lehner (Kristen), Steven A. Lehner, Donald W. Lehner Jr. and Joseph S. Lehner; and two very special friends, Kathy and Steve Snyder.

He was preceded in death by a niece, Beth Ann Sprankle.
Sam was a 1967 graduate of Tyrone Area High School and a retired medic in the U.S. Army Reserve, E9, with 27 years of service. He was a member of the Hookies Fire Company, Tyrone Elks Lodge 212, Jaffa Shrine, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Altoona Consistory, Mountain Royal Arch Chapter 189 and Centre Forest Tall Cedars of Lebanon. He was a past master and serving as secretary of the Tyrone Masonic Lodge 494, and he was presently serving as the Pennsylvania Masonic Grand Lodge regional instructor of ritualistic work.
Sam enjoyed hunting, fishing, Tyrone Area High School and Penn State football games, spending time with his granddaughters and many nieces and nephews and attending all family celebrations. He especially liked mowing grass and singing "I want to know if you've ever seen the rain coming down on a sunny day." He was always ready to help anyone in need. His favorite pastime was playing tickets from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Elks Lodge daily. He will be sorely missed by many.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at Derman Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone, where a Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p.m. and an Elks service at 6:45 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at the funeral home, the Rev. Norman E. Huff officiating. Interment will be at Baughman Cemetery.
