Edward Blair Rhodes

Edward Blair Rhodes, 76, Roaring Spring, died Monday morning at Altoona Regional after a brief illness.

He was born in Martinsburg RD, son of the late Leonard and Nellie (Shoenfelt) Rhodes. He married Frances B. Hetrick on July 9, 1960.

Surviving are his wife; two children: Mark Edward and wife, Sharon, of Roaring Spring and Suzanne R. Hahn and husband, Anthony, of Bellefonte; four siblings: Delores "Sue" Morvan of Hollidaysburg, Barry and wife, Pat, of Martinsburg, Lois Cline of Osterburg and Donald of Bedford; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Orville, James and Thomas.

Edward was a 1954 graduate of Morrison Cove High School and a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Korea. He retired from Exxon, East Freedom, in December 1991 and previously had worked at Abbotts Dairy, Curryville. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Martinsburg Sportsmen's Association.

Edward enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, fishing, hunting, go-kart racing, mechanics and politics.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, by Pastor Joe Surin. Interment will be made in Greenlawn Cemetery, Roaring Spring.

Contributions in Edward's memory may be given to the American Heart Association.
