BELLWOOD - Bellwood-Antis defeated Everett, 25-22, 25-22, 25-18, for the Inter-County Conference title Saturday in high school girls volleyball action.
Coach Annette Wilkins said it is the first ICC title in volleyball ever won by the program.
"They were bound and determined to do this," said Wilkins, whose club heads into the District 6 postseason with a 19-0 record. "They went in knowing what they had to do and they were like 'We want a banner. We want a banner up there with our year on it' and they went out and did it."
Lindsey Mercer led a balanced attack with eight service points, seven kills and eight digs to go with Emily Nagle's 10 kills, eight blocks, six digs and six service points. Kelly Leamer contributed 23 assists and six service points. Katy Leamer added 12 digs, 12 kills and seven service points to go with nine digs from Kathleen Vankirk.
Bellwood begins district play on Tuesday. The Lady Blue Devils get the winner of Northern Cambria and Ferndale, who play Monday night.

Northern Bedford ousted
LOYSBURG - The Northern Bedford high school boys soccer team saw its season come to a heartbreaking close with a loss on penalty kicks to Hope For Hyndman Charter School in the District 5 Class A quarterfinals.
The score was tied, 3-3, after regulation and two overtimes, and Hyndman won the game on penalty kicks, 4-2.
Jordan Bingman scored two goals for seventh-seeded Hyndman and added a penalty kick. Hyndman will face Windber in the semifinals on Tuesday.
Tanner Russell scored two goals for Northern, and Damian Corle added one.
"This was a very good group of [eight] seniors,'' Northern Bedford coach Marcus Yeatts said. "They had 60 wins in their career and three league championships. Unfortunately, they didn't have good luck in the district playoffs.''
