The Rev. Edgar H. Shaffer, 96, of Sinking Valley and a resident of Valley View Home since March 2012, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday at Altoona Regional after a brief illness.

He was born in Spring Hope, Bedford County, son of the late Edgar F. and Ella (Miller) Shaffer. He was twice married, first to Arlene Mann, then to Martha E. Hufford on Jan. 26, 1946, both of whom preceded him in death.

Surviving are a daughter, Helena Harn (Pete); a daughter-in-law, Darlene Shaffer; seven grandchildren: Daniel, Timothy, Scott and Aaron Harn, Wendy Nyiri (Ed), Polly Garman (Terry) and Mary Joy Petrunak (Brad); many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, John E.; two brothers: William and Mearle Sr.; and a sister, Florence Clark.

Edgar served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII, and he had worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a member of Bread of Life Baptist Church and had pastored Baptist churches. He loved motorcycles.

Friends will be received from 1 until the 3 p.m. funeral service Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, the Rev. Steve Clifton officiating. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
