Jan L. Tanzi, 83, Altoona, passed away Monday at home.
She was born in Petersburg, daughter of the late Carl and Florence (Arndt) Lovell. She married Thomas J. "Tom" Tanzi on Nov. 4, 1946, in Cumberland, Md., and he died July 26, 1981.
Surviving are two daughters: Cheryl Vellone (Tony Sr.) and Carla Pielmeier (Ron); four grandchildren: Tony Vellone Jr. and his children, Olivia and Sophia, Mark Lattieri Jr. and wife, Theresa, and their children, Aaliyah, Avionna and Marky, Michael Lattieri and his children, Gage, Kieara and Calandra, and Mandy Lattieri and her children, Eric and Jenna; special nieces and nephews: Sharon, David and Taylor Mentzer, Garry (Jessie) Haun and family, Mike (Tonya) Haun and family and Steve Haun (Eileen); and an aunt and cousins in New Jersey. She also helped to raise her husband's young brother.
She was preceded in death by a loving sister, Donna "Dee Dee" Haun, Grammy; two cousins: Pat and Betty; and a special nephew, Dave.
Jan was a graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School. She had been employed with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Council 83, the Altoona Mirror and Myers, Beaver and Vellone Insurance Co. She was of the Protestant faith, and she enjoyed family get-togethers, laughter, eating out and George Clooney.
Jan was blessed with the entire Vellone family in her life, as well as some special friends, Linda and Becky. She was always up to teasing and being teased by her son-in-law. She was known for her sense of humor and orneriness, and she loved to laugh and make others laugh. Her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family were all she needed in life to make her happy, along with her lucky dogs over the years.
She will always be remembered with a smile by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren for her version of the song "Mairzy Doats."
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at Santella Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at Axe and Santella Family Chapel, 1534 Fourth St., Altoona, by Father Stephen Lourie.
