YORK - Central Cambria's Max Kirsch medaled at the PIAA Golf Championships, thanks to his two-day performance on Monday and Tuesday at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort.
Kirsch, a senior, finished eighth in the state in the Class AA field, thanks to a 75 he shot on Tuesday, which was three strokes better than the 78 he shot on Monday.
"The first day there was an adjustment to be made to get used to the greens because they were really fast," Central Cambria coach Tom Aurandt said. "His putting wasn't real sharp on Monday, and [Tuesday] it was raining and cold to start out with."
Fairfield's Isaiah Logue won the gold with a 145. Kirsch finished ahead of Richland's Brady Moran, who tied for ninth with a 155.
"Max opened the front nine at 3 over, but he had two birdies back-to-back after that, and I thought he might make a move," Aurandt said. "To finish eighth place is a tremendous accomplishment. I am real proud of how he did."
Northern Bedford's J.J. McCabe also finished up his two-day stint at states. He finished 24th with a 166. He shot an 84 Monday and an 82 on Tuesday.
Kirsch and his Central Cambria teammates will play in the Class AA state team competition this morning at Heritage Hills.
