YORK - Through one day of competition at the PIAA golf championships at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort, Central Cambria senior Max Kirsch finished in a six-way tie for ninth place with a score of 78, six strokes off the lead.
Kirsch carded a 39 on both the front nine and back nine, logging nine pars and a birdie along the way en route to a seven-over par for the day.
Northern Bedford senior J.J. McCabe was in a three-way tie for 21st place with an 82. McCabe shot a 40 on the front nine and a 42 on the back nine.
Alex Patricio of Yough and Cole Miller of Northwestern Lehigh were tied for the lead after one day with a one-over par 72.
The final round will take place today, with Kirsch teeing off at 9:40 a.m. among a group of four golfers. McCabe's tee time is 9:30 a.m. today.
