Richard D. Hummel, 74, Altoona, died Monday at Valley View Home after a brief illness.
He was born in Bellwood, son of the late Clyde R. and Verna M. (Miller) Hummel. He married Pauline J. Dalby on July 14, 1978.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Robin Bohnenberger in New Jersey; a stepdaughter, Diane Balkavich (Thomas) of Bellwood; a stepson, Gregory Dougal in Wisconsin; three grandchildren: James Dillard and Jessica and Rachel Bohnenberger; and two brothers: Mickey A. (Joni) of Erwin, N.C., and Leonard R. (Nancy) of Hollidaysburg.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Shriner; and a brother, Master Sgt. Ira R. "Bud" Hummel.
Richard was a graduate of Bellwood High School. He retired as a serviceman from Peoples Natural Gas after 37 years of service. He enjoyed camping, taking train trips, visiting Civil War battlefields and various sports.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, in Stevens Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Douglas R. McGaffin. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
