Ruth Anna (Gray) Burk, 89, Blue Knob, died Sunday morning at the Maple Winds Care Center, Portage.
She was born near Girdletree, Md., daughter of the late Warren B. and Blanche (Truitt) Gray. She married Charles Bailey Burk on Aug. 26, 1940, in Maryland, and he died Aug. 18, 1983.
Surviving are a daughter, Charlotte Ann Smith and husband, Charles, of Blue Knob, with whom she lived for 28 years; four grandchildren: Bonnie Barclay and husband, Richard, of Ephrata, Charlene Hamilton of Martinsburg, Ruthann Bowles and husband, Todd, of Roaring Spring and Kayleen Long and husband, Adam, of Blue Knob; and nine great-grandchildren: Chelsea, Amanda, Richard, Katie, Taylor, Joash, Nora, Keith and Amber.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Earl Wilson and Warren Gray; and a great-grandson, Caleb Charles Bowles.
Ruth was born and raised near Girdletree, Md. Several years later, she moved to Chester, where she met her husband of 43 years. The family later moved to Boothwyn, where she resided with her daughter and family after her husband's death in 1983. In 2000, they moved to Blue Knob, until illness moved her to the Maple Winds Care Center, Portage.
Ruth attended Chester High School and was of the Methodist faith. She retired from the Scott Paper Co. in Chester after 20 years of service. She enjoyed puzzles, reading and traveling to Ocean City, Md.
At Ruth's request, there will be no public visitation. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Todd Bowles officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ruth's memory may be given to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Ave., Windber, PA 15963; or the Blair County Christian School, 925 Blacks Lane, Duncansville, PA 16635.
