Ethel "Mae" McEldowney, 95, Altoona, died Saturday at Altoona Regional after a brief illness.
She was born in Windber, daughter of the late Joseph and Addie L. (Yoder) Holsinger. She married Charles W. McEldowney on Oct. 8, 1939, in Johnstown. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2000.

Surviving are a son, David L. McEldowney of Altoona; a daughter-in-law, Eileen McEldowney of Altoona; four grandchildren; Scott McEldowney and wife, Kim, Rick McEldowney, Jodi Baum and Colleen McEldowney; eight great-grandchildren: Jordan, Ian David, Meaghan, Braydon, Lydia, RJ, Marlee and Haylee; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard; seven brothers and four sisters.
Ethel was a member of First Lutheran Church. She retired in 1982 after 40 years of combined service at Stevenson's Dry Cleaners, Loungeray and Tritex. She was a member of the Pa. Society for the Advancement of the Deaf and Central Pa. Deaf Senior Citizens and was a graduate of the Western Pa. School for the Deaf.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona.
A funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Western Pa. School for the Deaf (www.wpsd.org) or to McEldowney Academic Scholarship Fund (www.macsfund.org).
