Alvin Samuel Pennell, 91, formerly of Saxton, went to meet the Lord Monday at his home in Selbyville, Del.

He was born in Saxton, son of the late Russell C. and Jessie (Zembower) Pennell. He married Lila Steinkraus on June 5, 1943.

Surviving are his loving wife of 69 years; two daughters: Carla Lee Asman, the widow of Peter Asman, and Cynthia Ann Lashinski and husband, Daniel; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six nephews; and a niece.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Sam served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-45 in the South Pacific aboard the USS Fortune, an aviation supply ship. He worked for Penelec from 1947-81 and was a machinist by trade, and he enjoyed working with brass and stained glass. He was a member of St. George's United Methodist Church in Clarksville, Del., the Broad Top Senior Citizens and VFW Post 429.

Services are at the discretion of the family.
