Bishop Guilfoyle picks up huge win

In a battle of Class A state-ranked high school girls volleyball teams, No. 5 Bishop Guilfoyle swept No. 4 Bishop Carroll, 30-28, 25-10, 25-22, Monday night at the Pleasant Valley gym.

BG's Lindsie Welteroth had 15 service points and 15 digs, while Annie Dombrowski notched 16 kills and 11 digs. Also contributing to the win were Jennifer Patterson (10 kills), Rachel Potopa (34 assists) and Logan McIntosh (30 digs).

BC was led by Ellie Yahner (15 service points, 12 kills), Nicole Woomer (11 service points), Rachel Kwisnek (10 service points), Sarah Gomish (19 kills) and Janelle Gueguen (19 assists).

Lady Pirates triumph

WILLIAMSBURG - Williamsburg defeated Tyrone, 25-23, 25-21, 27-25 to improve to 5-9.

Emily Shaw had 12 service points, including five aces, while teammate Cassondra Kensinger added 11 service points and 16 digs. Teammate Kara Stayduhar added 10 assists to go with four kills from Shenia Lower.

Casey Branstetter had eight service points for Tyrone.

BELLWOOD - Bellwood-Antis defeated Tussey Mountain, 25-11, 25-7, 25-15, to remain unbeaten.

Katie Leamer had 15 kills, seven blocks and eight digs, Lindsey Mercer added 10 kills and nine digs, and Kathleen Van Kirk contributed 23 service points.

Ashley Young had six kills and 11 digs and Morgan Lynn had eight digs and three blocks for Tussey.

Tigers win in four

HOLLIDAYSBURG - Hollidaysburg defeated Forest Hills, 25-21, 22-25, 25-16, 25-20, behind Alex Scheel's eight kills and seven blocks.

Katie Reed had 10 service points and 14 assists, and Kristen Reed led the team with 16 service points.

Spikers defeated

CLARION - Altoona fell to 8-3 after losing to Clarion, 25-14, 25-27, 25-13, 25-18.

The Lady Spikers got nine service points from Amanda Parrish to go with 29 digs from and 12 kills from Hannah Moore. Aubrey Hileman chipped in with 22 assists, while Natalie Biesecker added eight kills.

Mo Valley swept
