Helen E. Smith, 90, Valley View Retirement Community, Belleville, formerly of Centre Hall, died Sunday at Valley View.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late James and Sylvia Mackey. She married Donald Eugene Smith on June 19, 1946, and he preceded her in death April 2, 1988.
Surviving are a sister, Genevieve Swanger of Altoona; two brothers-in-law: Carl Smith and wife, Doris, of Centre Hall and Robert E. Berich of Reedsville; a sister-in-law, Patricia Mackey of Altoona; and several nieces and nephews, including Cynthia L. Corbin of Milroy, who served as her care supervisor during her stay at Belleville.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Mackey; and a sister in infancy.
After high school, Helen attended beauty school in Altoona. She went on to work for many years as a beautician and also worked in retail sales. She also was very active serving on the election board at Centre Hall Borough.
Helen was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Centre Hall, where she was a former choir director. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 207, Centre Hall. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, collecting angels and collecting pictures of famous musicians.
Friends will be received from 9:30 until the 11:15 a.m. funeral service Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at Trinity United Church of Christ, 104 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall, the Rev. Audra Krise officiating. The Order of the Eastern Star service will be accorded at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be at the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery, West Church Street, Centre Hall.
