Calvin C. Cotter, 93, Altoona, died Sunday at Altoona Regional after a brief illness.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late John James and Helen (Isenberg) Cotter. He married Christine V. Matthews on Oct. 10, 1945, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Altoona, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 2001.

Surviving are four sons: Calvin "Joe" of Altoona, Donald M. Sr. of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., Paul J. of Altoona and David R. of Camp Hill; a daughter, Mary Ann Mummert of Duncansville; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Charles; a sister, Marie Evans; and a grandson, Christopher Cotter.

Calvin was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He retired on Jan. 31, 1986, as a janitor from the Altoona Area School District after 38 years of service. He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church and also belonged to VFW Post 3 and American Legion Post 827. He was a social member of the Bavarian Aid Society, Buccinese Society and German American Retirement Club.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Father Ronald Osinski officiating. Committal will be at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
