Joan E. Cimbalista, 69, Flinton, died Sunday at Western Pennsylvania Hospital, Pittsburgh.

She was born in Palmyra, daughter of the late James and Thelma Dean.

Surviving are six children: Elizabeth Darrach (James) of Lancaster, Marguerite Walter of Blackstock, S.C., Robert Jr. of Raleigh, N.C., Jennifer of Warrenton, N.C., and James and Stephen, both of Everett; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jane Dean of Palmyra.

Joan retired in 2005 as a sales clerk with Value City, Altoona. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, Cresson, and its choir and also a member of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel choir, Altoona. She loved to sing and sang at countless weddings. She also was an avid reader, and she loved the beach at Wildwood, N.J., where she vacationed for over 30 years. She also was an avid fan of Penn State football and both the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at St. Francis Xavier Church, the Rev. Leo F. Arnone officiating. Committal will be at the church cemetery.
