Surviving are his wife, Colleen Marie; two sons: Andrew Sterling and John Michael; two sisters: Melissa (Tom) Janocko of Clearfield and Linda (Darryl) Etheridge of Williston, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Gary (Debbie) Butler; a sister-in-law, Lori Alvarado; his parents-in-law, Gary and Flora Butler; and several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.

Chuck moved to Williston, Fla., in 1980 and graduated from Williston High School in 1983. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1984, serving in Athens, Greece, and various U.S. locations. In 1999, he earned a Master of Science degree from the University of Nebraska and was certified as a physician assistant. He retired from the Air Force in 2008 after 24 years of service and subsequently worked in various medical facilities in the northern California area, including most recently his "dream job" in the emergency room at Sutter Medical Center in Roseville, Calif.

Chuck enjoyed everything about nature, including exploring the beach and sailing, but most of all he enjoyed sharing all of that with his wife and two wonderful sons. He will always be remembered for his dedication to his profession and the level of care he provided to his patients, but most of all for his kindness.

Chuck enjoyed sharing gummy candies with everyone he encountered.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at St. Dominic's Church, 475 E. I St., Benicia, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Chuck's name may be made to the Rocklin High School football program in Rocklin, Calif., or the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey, Calif.
