Motown icons team for show

UNIVERSITY PARK - Attend a night of classic Motown mixed with Christmas songs when the tour "A Christmas with The Temptations and The Four Tops" comes to the Bryce Jordan Center at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7.

Both groups have spent more than 40 years performing professionally and have racked up a long list of hits. The Temptations are best known for their No. 1 singles like "My Girl," "Ain't Too Proud to Beg," "Just My Imagination" and "Papa Was a Rolling Stone." The Four Tops made their own mark on the charts with songs like "Baby, I Need Your Loving," "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)" and "Reach Out (I'll Be There)."

Tickets are $49.75 for the general public, $39.75 for seniors ages 65 and older and $20 for for Penn State students and children under age 18. Tickets are on sale now at the Bryce Jordan Center, Eisenhower Auditorium, Penn State Downtown Theatre, online at www.bjc.psu.edu or by calling 865-5555.

Theater group does Mamet

The local theater group Things Unseen will present "Oleanna," a play by David Mamet, at 8 p.m. today, Saturday and Oct. 19 and 20 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 20 at The Church in the Middle of the Block Cultural Center, 217 5th Avenue, Altoona.

The shows today and on Oct. 19 will be followed by a question and comment session with the audience.

"Oleanna" involves a college student who drops by her professor's office because she is concerned about her grade in his class. She later accuses him of sexual harassment and files a report of her complaints to the college.

Tickets are $12 for the general public and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets are available at Thompson Pharmacies and at the door.

Area veterans to exhibit art

A Veterans Art Enrichment Group will host a Halloween art show Oct. 29 through Nov. 2 at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona, in the Yellow Team Waiting Area.

All veterans are eligible to submit their art work. Art must be submitted for consideration to Nick Frick, Peer Support Specialist, by Oct. 26.

Casino hosts dinner theater

The Casino at Lakemont Park will present the professional performing arts company Enchante Cabaret's performance of "Witches Brew" for a dinner theater at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1.

The Halloween-themed show will feature Altoona native Mallory Keith.

The price for a ticket - which includes dinner, hors d'oeuvres and the show - are $50. Dinner choices are herb-roasted salmon or breaded pork cutlet. A cash bar will also be available. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., with hors d'oeuvres served at 5:45 p.m. and dinner served at 6:30 p.m.
