Tigers’ Kirsch tied at top on first day

HOLLIDAYSBURG - Hollidaysburg's Jordan Kirsch is tied for the lead after shooting a first-round score of 77 during the Class AAA District 6 high school boys golf championship Tuesday at Scotch Valley Country Club.

Kirsch is tied with State College's Ben Gelenberg, and the Little Lions' Tyrus Gates is three strokes back in third. State College leads the Class AAA team competition, 321-327, over Hollidaysburg.

In Class AA, defending District 6 champion Max Kirsch trails Richland's Brady Moran by one stroke after shooting a 71. Northern Cambria's Tyler Tiesi shot a 74 and is third.

Claysburg-Kimmel's Tyler Brown is part of a three-way tie for fourth after shooting 79.

Tyrone's Gregory Ferguson, who qualified for the PIAA Championships last year, is tied for eighth after shooting an 82. Bishop Guilfoyle's Chris Michelone also shot 82.

Central Cambria, the defending team District 6 champion, leads the team competition, 319-326, over second-place Richland. Penn Cambria is in fourth at 368.
