Joseph J. "Polock" Kowalczyk, 62, Altoona, died Thursday at Altoona Regional after an extended illness.
He was born in Coupon, son of the late Frank W. and Jean (Zugay) Kowalczyk. He married Vickie J. Mort on April 1, 2002, in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife; three daughters: Ivy J. Long and husband, Shawn, Vickie Smith and Teeha Rodgers; a son, George J. Rodgers and wife, Stephanie; 10 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Patricia Conrad and husband, Allen; two brothers: Frank W. and John A.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Jo Kowalczyk.
Joseph was a 1968 graduate of Penn Cambria High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired from SKF in 2005. He was a member of the Mountain Top Sportsmen's Association, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting pool.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, the Rev. Greg Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
