NBC’s Frederick captures District 5 crown

McCONNELLSBURG - Northern Bedford's Jake Frederick captured the District 5 golf championship at the Great Cove Golf Course Thursday with a 77.

Frederick won the title by three strokes over his closest competition, Everett's Kyle Walters. Walters, who shot an 80, will join Nothern Bedford's J.J. McCabe (83) and North Star's Nolan Pritts (83) as qualifiers for the PIAA Western Regional Tournament that will be held at Tom's Run Golf Course in Blairsville on Oct. 15.

In the girls competition, Bedford's Kourtney Mortimer edged two-time District 5 girls champion Logan Brallier of Everett by two strokes, 94-96. Both qualified for the Western Regional.

Conemaugh Township won the team title and will take on the District 6 Class AA champion at Scotch Valley Country Club for the right to enter the PIAA team championship.

Kirsch shoots 73

ORE HILL - Jordan Kirsch's medalist score of 73 helped Hollidaysburg defeat Altoona (320-348), State College (352) and Central Mountain (393) in a match that was moved from Scotch Valley Country Club to Iron Masters.

Nolan Robbins shot a 78 for the Golden Tigers.

Trentin Martin led Altoona, which defeated State College and Central Mountain, with an 84.

The Golden Tigers hiked their record to 16-3. The Mountain Lions are now 13-6.

ALTOONA (348): Martin 84, Zitsch 86, Fink 88, Curfman 90.

Moyer cards hole-in-one

CRESSON - Dick Moyer of Johnstown carded his first hole-in-one on the Summit Country Club's par 3 136-yard eighth hole with a 6 iron on Wednesday.

The shot was witnessed by Rob McCombie and Ron McCombie.
