Walter C. Dodson, 94, Altoona, died Thursday at Golden LivingCenter-Hillview.
He was born in Ashville, son of the late Warren and Anna (Bettwy) Dodson. He married Olga Matilda Scherzinger on July 3, 1947, in Altoona, and she preceded him in death on June 10, 2001.
Surviving are a son, Marc W. of Vero Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Cynthia M. Van Orman, with whom he resided; a sister, Margaret McConnell of Altoona; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: John, Andrew and Joseph; and a son-in-law, Denis J. Van Orman Sr.
Walter was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He retired as a barber and previously was the owner of Peoples Barber Shop and Esquire Barber Shop. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and also belonged to the Bavarian Aid Society, Juniata VFW, Catholic War Veterans, American Legion and Unter Uns.
Walter enjoyed going to dances at the Blair Senior Center and was a member of the Golden Nuggets.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Blair Senior Services Inc., 1320 12th Ave., Altoona, PA 16601, in memory of Walter.
