Lois M. Shoenberger, 88, Altoona, went home to be with the Lord early Sunday morning at Golden LivingCenter-Hillview.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Harry S. Sr. and Catherine (Buchanan) Olewine. She was twice married, first to Howard Ross Walter Sr. on Sept. 11, 1942, in Altoona, and he preceded her in death on June 9, 1958. She then married Fred Shoenberger on Aug. 7, 1982, and he also preceded her in death.
Surviving are four children: Janet L. Porter and husband, Robert, of Greenwood, Howard R. Walter Jr. and wife, Marlene, of Oceanside, Calif., Lee A. Walter and wife, Joan, of Waterbury, Conn., and Nancy A. Shade of Altoona; two stepchildren: Albert Shoenberger and wife, Darlene, of Tyrone and Alberta McCahan and husband, Donald, of Tyrone; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Fortier, on Dec. 1, 1996; a brother, Harry S. Olewine Jr.; and a granddaughter, Erin M. Shade, in 2009.
Lois was a 1942 graduate of Altoona High School. She retired as a teacher's aide from the Altoona Area School District in February 1989 and formerly had been employed as a health aide at Girl Haven. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Altoona.
Lois enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, puzzles and watching game shows. She and her husband, Fred, enjoyed working as resident managers of Blair Tower.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon today, Oct. 5, 2012, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, followed by a funeral service at noon, Pastor Tyler Pepper officiating. Interment will be held at Carson Valley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Home Nursing Agency Hospice, 201 Chestnut Ave., P.O. Box 352, Altoona, PA 16603.
