Altoona girls run to victory

REEDSVILLE - The Altoona Area High School boys and girls cross country teams split a pair of decisions at Mifflin County on Wednesday.

The Altoona girls improved to 3-1 with a 20-42 victory behind Brianna Geist's third-place finish in 21:54. MC's Megan Becker won the girls race in 21:32.

Mifflin County won the boys race, 27-29, dropping Altoona's boys team to 3-1. Addison Monroe of Mifflin County paced all boys runners with a 17:21, while Altoona was led by Terry Futrell's third-place finish.

CC girls top Somerset

EBENSBURG - Alyssa Brandis held off Somerset's Haylee Rohrer for first place to help the Central Cambria girls down Somerset, 22-33.

Brandis finished in 21:24, and Rohrer's time was 21:25. The Lady Devils finished 3-4-5 with Hannah Swope, Jordan Hayward and Jackie Bracken.

The Somerset boys won, 16-45.

PC falls to Westmont

CRESSON - Garrett Sutton was the highest finisher for Penn Cambria in the boys race, taking second in 16:59, but Westmont Hilltop won, 23-32.

Arlee Simendinger finished third for PC on the girls side in 20:39, but Westmont won that, 26-30.

Heights sweeps

PATTON - Lindsay Link took first in 23:23 for the Cambria Heights girls in a 17-46 win over Bishop Carroll. The Lady Huskies were led by Catherine Hull, who took fourth in 26:21.

The Highlanders boys team won, 17-46, behind Michael Dautlick, who won in 18:48. Carroll was led by Tyler Krug, who finished fourth in 22:07.

Tyrone girls go 1-1

TYRONE - Jordan Wiser won the girls race in 22:28 to lead Tyrone to a split against Bellefonte and Central Mountain.

Tyrone beat Bellefonte, 24-32, but lost to Central Mountain, 26-33.

The Tyrone boys were swept, losing to Bellefonte, 16-37, and Central Mountain, 24-37. Luke McCloskey led the Eagles, finishing fifth in 19:38.

Bedford dominates

BEDFORD - Emilee Fierro won the girls race, and William Kachman prevailed in the boys race to lead Bedford in a meet with Richland, Meyersdale, Johnstown Christian and Tussey Mountain.

The Lady Bisons were the only girls team to score.

The Bedford boys beat Richland, 25-30, and Meyersdale, 21-36.
