Mary Jo Sutton, 82, Altoona, died Monday evening at Altoona Regional after a brief illness.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Frank L. and Margaret G. (Garrety) Graupensperger.

Surviving are a daughter, Susan M. Askey (Ray) of Altoona; two grandchildren: Erica Lee (Travis) of Huntingdon and Alex of Arlington, Va.; two sisters: Frances M. Graupensperger and Rosemarie Dibert (David), both of Altoona; two nephews; two nieces; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Carol, in 1938.
Mary Jo was a 1947 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and a 1950 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She had worked as a private duty registered nurse and as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital and Home Nursing Agency. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and also belonged to Park Hills Country Club, The Summit Athletic Club and Friends of the Altoona Library.
Mary Jo enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, reading, swimming and shopping with her daughter.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Monsignor Stanley Carson. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
The family requests that donations be made to the Altoona Area Public Library or Home Nursing Agency in memory of Mary Jo.
